Multilingual WordPress SEO means Google correctly understands which page is for which language and country, and shows each customer the version in their language. On most multilingual sites the hreflang tags are wrong, half the translations have untranslated titles and descriptions, and language versions compete with each other. I fix it for WPML, Polylang and TranslatePress. Site with up to 2 languages for €490.

Why multilingual sites struggle on Google?
Adding a language to WordPress takes one plugin. Doing it so Google understands it is another matter. The plugin translates the text, but the SEO settings are often only half done. This is what I see on multilingual sites most often:
Broken hreflang
Tags point to pages that don’t exist, the return link or x-default is missing. Google then ignores them.
Untranslated SEO fields
The page text is in English, but the title and meta description are still in Slovak. In search results it looks like a mistake.
Slovak slugs in English
The English version has the URL /en/produkt/panske-tricko/. Both English customers and Google are confused.
Languages competing
The Slovak and Czech versions are almost identical, and Google shows the Slovak page in the Czech Republic.
Automatic IP redirects
The site redirects by country, so Googlebot crawling from the US never sees the local versions.
Half the translations missing
Categories, attributes, filters and cart pages are still in the original language or don’t exist at all.
What others get wrong: they machine-translate the whole site at once and let it all get indexed, or redirect visitors by IP address. The result is thousands of weak pages and a Google that can’t see all the languages. The right approach is a separate URL for every language, translated SEO fields and clean hreflang.
What I do for multilingual WordPress
Setup review
Plugin (WPML, Polylang, TranslatePress), URL structure, languages and countries, what’s translated and what isn’t.
Hreflang
Correct tags for every language, return links, x-default, checked across the whole site, not just the homepage.
URLs and slugs
Translated slugs for pages, products and categories, so the URL matches the language.
SEO fields
Titles, meta descriptions and focus keywords in every language in Rank Math or Yoast, not copied from the original.
Sitemaps
A sitemap per language, with no pages in the wrong language and no redirected URLs.
Language switcher
No automatic IP redirects; the switcher leads to the same page in another language, not the homepage.
WooCommerce
Translated categories, attributes, variations and product schema, currencies by country.
Search Console
Verification of every language version, indexing and results checked by country.
The videos are in Slovak; YouTube can show automatic English subtitles.

How it works
Two weeks of work, with no downtime. I need access to WordPress and Search Console. I make changes on a staging copy first if you have one, otherwise outside peak hours.
1
Review (days 1 to 3). I check hreflang, URLs, SEO fields and sitemaps in all languages and send a list of errors.
2
Fixes (days 4 to 9). Hreflang, slugs, SEO fields, sitemaps, switcher, WooCommerce translations.
3
Verification (day 10). Whole-site check, Search Console for every language. After 30 days I check indexing.

Frequently asked questions about multilingual WordPress SEO
What is hreflang?
A tag in the page code that tells Google the same page also exists in another language or for another country, and where to find it. It lets Google show the right language version to the right person.
How much does multilingual SEO setup cost?
Site with up to 2 languages €490; site or store with 3 or more languages €990. Prices are final; we are not VAT registered.
Which plugin is best for multilingual WordPress?
For WooCommerce stores I most often recommend WPML; for smaller sites Polylang is enough. I work with all three common plugins including TranslatePress and only recommend switching when it makes sense.
Subdomain, subfolder or separate domain?
For most companies a subfolder (/cs/, /en/), because it shares the main domain’s strength. Separate domains (.cz, .de) make sense for a strong local brand in that country.
Can I use machine translation?
As a starting point, yes, but a human should review the texts, especially titles, descriptions and products. Unreviewed machine translation of a whole site is more of a risk than a benefit today.
The Slovak and Czech versions are almost the same. Is that a problem?
With hreflang it’s not duplicate content; Google knows they are language versions. But translated titles, descriptions and prices in the right currency are essential, otherwise the languages compete.
Do you translate the texts too?
No, the price covers SEO setup and fixes. You get a list of missing translations ordered by importance and arrange the translation yourself or through a translator.
